Membership Portal: The Barge Awaits You

Are you ready to begin the work that is required by the Spirit that calls you to Avalon?

The Sisterhood of Avalon represents a very specific path of study. We are looking for women to join us who are ready to undertake a self-guided path to empowerment. Sisters with more experience on the Path will be there to help you along the way. However, this is a path for the self-starting, mature seeker.

The Sisterhood is a community of like-minded women dedicated to the work of Avalon and walking individual yet parallel paths to the Holy Isle. You will do a great deal of your work on your own at your own altar and in your own heart. We provide a loom of structure and support; the tapestry you weave upon it is for you alone to decide. Along the way, you will enjoy the support and company of a vibrant online community of Sister Seekers at all levels of experience, each with wisdom to share.

Almost every position of responsibility in the Sisterhood of Avalon is tended to by volunteers. It is an enormous amount of work, yet it is a service undertaken joyfully.

Your yearly membership dues of $60.00 USD a year go to support the mundane realities of running an organization of this kind, which spans the globe in our scope and membership. This includes: SOA publications, office supplies, maintaining this website, and maintaining compliance. As well, a percentage is tithed to organizations such as the Chalice Well Trust; pooled to build the SOA Land Fund, so that we might create and maintain Women’s Land and Goddess Sanctuary patterned after Avalon of old; and dedicated to providing scholarships for SOA learning opportunities such as the Avalonian Thealogical Seminary and Avalonian Training Intensives.

Applicants will pay a non-refundable $10.00 USD application fee. $60.00 USD dues are due on November 1st of the first year of membership. Membership does not begin until Sisters have completed Orientation and been instated as full members.

You may want to think of your dues as a representation of energy you would expend if we were all in ancient Avalon, living and working together. Instead of tending the herb garden, for instance, you contribute your energy exchange in the form of dollars. You may further your service to the Sisterhood, if you wish, by volunteering your skills, resources and talents as the need arises and as your spirit moves you.

Applying for Membership

The Sisterhood of Avalon opens for membership only at the Celtic Portal Times of Calan Gaeaf (Samhain) and Calan Mai (Beltane).

The Calan Gaeaf Membership Portal is now OPEN.

The application deadline for this Portal is November 1, 2020. Before you get to the actual Application to Membership, you will be taken on an introductory tour of what your Application to Membership actually means. The Sisterhood of Avalon isn’t right for every woman. If you find you resonate with the Principles that guide the SOA, please consider making your application at the end of the tour. Your application will be reviewed by the Membership Committee to insure that we are a good fit for each other and a final decision will be sent to you shortly. Since there is great interest in Membership, please be patient. Each application gets thorough consideration, and we don’t want to rush.

When you receive our invitation to join us, we will send you further information on how to proceed. If you aren’t to join us, we bless you on your continued journey. There are many paths to Avalon.

The Sisterhood of Avalon’s Transgender Policy

The Council of Nine and the Board of Trustees would like to update our community on recent changes to the SOA’s membership policy regarding transgender and intersex women. We are pleased to announce that our policy on membership has been expanded to include any person who self-identifies and currently lives as a woman.

This decision is the result of both much inner work and a continuing conversation between the Council of Nine and Board of Trustees that has been taking place over a period spanning several years.

As an organization that emphasizes healing and personal sovereignty we are proud to welcome all women to walk their path along the shores of this Isle of Healing, our Isle of Avalon.
