Remembering, Reclaiming, Renewing

Avalonian Thealogical Seminary

Avalonian Thealogical Seminary

History

The Sisterhood of Avalon is proud to sponsor the Avalonian Thealogical Seminary. Founded in 1999, we have the distinction of being the first learning opportunity of its kind and are honored to present the teachings and philosophies of the Avalonian Tradition.

Statement of Purpose

The aim of Avalonian Thealogical Seminary is threefold:

To Remember

Through Service to Self, we seek to build a foundation for undertaking the journey towards personal evolution and self-actualization.

To Reclaim

Through Service to Sisters, we cultivate the art of empowerment midwifery, training in pastoral counseling, and the facilitation of rites of passage in accordance with local laws and scope of practice.

To Renew

Through Service to Goddess, we encourage the growth of this work by requiring that each student complete a comprehensive neoteric thesis relating to the Avalonian Tradition. This ensures that sisters become fully grounded in the Avalonian method of wisdom transmission, so that the ever-expanding circle grows ever stronger.

Notice of Nondiscriminatory Policy as to Students

The Avalonian Thealogical Seminary admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.

Course of Study

The Avalonian Thealogical Seminary is a rigorous training program designed to awaken the innate wisdom in every student. The course work requires students to push through their perceived limitations and to expand their boundaries on mental, emotional and spiritual levels. It is both a course of study and a guide to effect lasting inner change. Through a deeper understanding and connection to the Divine Feminine, the ATS serves as a midwife to consciously assist in the birth of the empowered woman within.

The Avalonian Thealogical Seminary embraces a paradigm of learning that is very different from the pedagogical techniques of most other learning institutions. This type of learning requires not only disciplined academic work, but a tireless dedication to seek one’s authentic self. It also demands fearless questioning in the search for truth, as well as courage to push past perceived limitations in order to draw from the inner well of wisdom —the birthright of every woman. Through the use of scholarly resources, mythic tradition, esoteric philosophy and tools designed to encourage personal evolution, the ATS charts a course for lasting change and provides a gateway for women to access the shining realms of Avalon.

Admissions

Applications for the program are accepted from women who are members in good standing of the Sisterhood of Avalon. A student is expected to remain an active member of the SOA community throughout the course of her seminary studies. In order to give students a grounding in the Cycle of Healing and the Avalonian Tradition, only members that have walked the Cycle of Healing for a year and that have completed the Gold Ray Quest will be eligible to apply for admission.

For more information about the Gold Ray Quest, contact the SOA’s Cycle Matron at cyclematron@sisterhoodofavalon.org. An application, essays and a statement of intent are required for admission.

Accreditation

At present, there are no accrediting agencies for Pagan seminaries, as there are very few such institutions in existence; in time, we hope that this will change.

Ordination

The Sisterhood of Avalon recognizes the need for a comprehensive training program for women wishing to serve the Goddess and their communities as ordained clergy. All women who complete the entire seminary program will be eligible to apply for ordination through the SOA.

As part of the ordination process, participation in a Seminary retreat is required. While a seminary student must be an SOA member in good standing, she need not pursue ordination. In such cases, a certificate of completion will be issued.
