Calling the Barge: Seeking Membership
Are you ready to embark upon a journey that reveals the Holy Island within you, while engaging with a supportive community of women around you?
The Sisterhood of Avalon represents a very specific path of study. We are looking for women to join us who are ready to undertake a self-guided path to empowerment. Sisters with more experience on the Path will be there to help you along the way. However, this is a path for the self-starting, mature seeker.
The Sisterhood is a community of like-minded women dedicated to the work of Avalon and walking individual yet parallel paths to the Holy Isle. You will do a great deal of your work on your own at your own altar and in your own heart. We provide a loom of structure and support; the tapestry you weave upon it is for you alone to decide. Along the way, you will enjoy the support and company of a vibrant online community of Sister Seekers at all levels of experience, each with wisdom to share.
Almost every position of responsibility in the Sisterhood of Avalon is tended to by volunteers. It is an enormous amount of work, yet it is a service undertaken joyfully.
Annual Dues
Your yearly membership dues of $60.00 USD go to support the mundane realities of running an organization of this kind, which spans the globe in our scope and membership. This includes: SOA publications, office supplies, maintaining this website, and maintaining compliance. As well, a percentage is tithed to organizations such as the Chalice Well Trust; pooled to build the SOA Land Fund, so that we might create and maintain Women’s Land and Goddess Sanctuary patterned after Avalon of old; and dedicated to providing scholarships for SOA learning opportunities such as the Avalonian Thealogical Seminary and Avalonian Training Intensives.
Applicants will pay a non-refundable $10.00 USD application fee. $60.00 USD dues are due on November 1st of the first year of membership. Membership does not begin until Sisters have completed Orientation and been instated as full members.
You may want to think of your dues as a representation of energy you would expend if we were all in ancient Avalon, living and working together. Instead of tending the herb garden, for instance, you contribute your energy exchange in the form of dollars. You may further your service to the Sisterhood, if you wish, by volunteering your skills, resources and talents as the need arises and as your spirit moves you.
Applying for Membership
The Sisterhood of Avalon opens for membership only at the Celtic Portal Times of Calan Gaeaf (Samhain) and Calan Haf (Beltane).
The Membership Portal is now CLOSED.
The Calan Gaeaf Portal will open on October 18, 2024.
You may subscribe to our Barge newsletter to receive a reminder about the next Portal openings.
Our Gender Inclusivity Statement
Our policy on membership has been expanded to include any person who self-identifies and currently lives as a woman. As an organization that emphasizes healing and personal sovereignty, we are proud to welcome all women to walk their path along the shores of this Isle of Healing, our Isle of Avalon.
