Membership

The Sisterhood of Avalon represents a very specific path of study. We are looking for women to join us who are ready to undertake a self-guided path to empowerment. Sisters with more experience on the Path will be there to help you along the way. However, this is a path for the self-starting, mature seeker.

No book will be handed to you for rote memorization. You will do a great deal of your work on your own. You will enjoy the company of a vibrant online community of Sister Seekers at all levels of attainment, as well as share an intimate learning community with Sisters sharing in the same Questing journey.

Almost every single position of responsibility in the Sisterhood of Avalon — from the Council of Nine, from the Board of Trustees, to all of the myriad positions that bring the Sisterhood into the world — is tended to by volunteers. It is an enormous amount of work, yet it is a service undertaken joyfully.

As well, a percentage is tithed to organizations such as the Chalice Well Trust, the White Spring, Friends of Bride’s Mound, and WitchVox; pooled to build the SOA Land Fund, so that we might create and maintain Women’s Land and Goddess Sanctuary patterned after Avalon of old; and dedicated to providing scholarships for SOA learning opportunities such as the Avalonian Theological Seminary and Avalonian Training Intensives.

Applicants will pay a non-refundable $10USD application fee and a $60USD membership due November 1st each year. Canadian Sisters pay $60CAD each year.

You may want to think of your dues as a representation of energy you would expend if we were all in Ancient Avalon, living and working together. Instead of tending the herb garden, for instance, you contribute your energy exchange in the form of currency. You may further your service to the Sisterhood, if you wish, by volunteering your skills, resources and talents as the need arises and as your spirit moves you.

The Portal

The Sisterhood of Avalon opens for membership only at the Celtic Portal Times of Calan Gaeaf (Samhain) and Calan Mai (Beltane).

The Calan Mai Portal is now CLOSED. The Calan Gaeaf Portal will open September 28, 2017.

You may subscribe to our Newsletter in the right sidebar of this Web site to receive a reminder about the next Portal openings.

The Sisterhood of Avalon’s Transgender Policy

The Council of Nine and the Board of Trustees would like to update our community on recent changes to the SOA’s membership policy regarding transgender and intersex women. We are pleased to announce that our policy on membership has been expanded to include any person who self-identifies and currently lives as a woman.

This decision is the result of both much inner work and a continuing conversation between the Council of Nine and Board of Trustees that has been taking place over a period spanning several years.

As an organization that emphasizes healing and personal sovereignty we are proud to welcome all women to walk their path along the shores of this Isle of Healing, our Isle of Avalon.

Sincerely,
Council of Nine and Board of Trustees
